The Joliette Passenger/Light Truck Tire Plant team was recognized on April 28 during the 2021 Mercuriades gala awards ceremony. This virtual event was organized by the Federation of Chambers of Commerce of Quebec (FCCQ), a group of 200 chambers of commerce in the province of Quebec. The Joliette Tire Plant received the Mercure for Sustainability 2021. This award honors outstanding sustainability strategies that are unique and demonstrate strong engagement, including but not limited to the following:
- The Joliette Tire Plant has expanded more than 20% of its surface without adding any CO2 emissions.
- No trees were impacted for the new factory warehouse which helps protect the wetlands.
- Additionally, the Joliette Tire Plant team undertook a project where they recovered the heat lost from boiler combustion to preheat the air for the infeed.
“The Joliette Plant team continues to demonstrate its innovative spirit with this project, and we are proud of the team’s commitment to sustainability at all levels of operations,” said Tamara Martensen, Vice President, Consumer Manufacturing, Bridgestone Americas Manufacturing Group.
Launched in 1981 by the FCCQ, the Mercuriades competition is now the most prestigious business competition in Quebec. Each year, it celebrates the innovation, ambition, entrepreneurship and performance of Quebec companies.
